2025 Kassel Smit Make a Difference Scholarship recipients

 Congratulations to all the Cary HS senior class of 2025!   CHS continues to IMPress!

We were honored to recognize two very special students at the Cary HS Awards assembly on Thursday, May 22, 2025. We presented the 41st and 42nd (over the past 21 years ) Make a Difference scholarships in memory of our youngest son Kassel. Each scholarship is $3000 to help in the vital first year of college.  The energy of the students and audience were invigorating and we soaked it all in!

Congratulations to Beyza Guvenc and Allie Frerking  on being selected as this year’s recipients.

We wish them the best of luck in their continuing education at UNC Chapel Hill and College of Fine Arts respectively.

2024 Kassel Smit Make a Difference Scholarship recipients

We presented the 39th and 40 (over the past 20 years ) Make a Difference scholarships in memory of our youngest son Kassel. Each scholarship is $3000 to help in the vital first year of college.  This year our oldest son, Kiehl (CHS class of 1999), flew in from Seattle to join us for the occasion!

Congratulations to Nick Hoffmann and James Haywood  on being selected as this year’s recipients.

We wish them the best of luck in their continuing education at Duke University and Western Carolina respectively.

2021 Kassel Smit Make a Difference Scholarship Recipients

The Cary HS ‘Prize Patrol’ made it possible in the pouring ran for Kevin and Theresa Smit to present the 2021 Kassel Smit Make A Difference scholarships to 2 Cary HS Seniors.  These are the 33rd & 34th recipient over 17 years!  This year each scholarship is $3000!
